Frequently Asked Questions

Vape kits are made up of three main components: a battery, a coil and a pod or tank. These parts are then used to heat up and vaporise e-liquid or vape juice, which you can then inhale through the mouthpiece. Similar to how you would with a cigarette but without burning anything and without tobacco. As a result, Public Health England say using a vape kit is 95% safer than smoking

Yes, e-cigarettes, e-cigs and vape kits all describe the same thing. You can use any of these names interchangeably.

Vape Pens

Pen-style vape kits are simple cylindrical kits, designed to be very easy to use. They are usually beginner vape kits, although there are some options with more advanced features like the Aspire Pockex which can be used for both MTL and sub-ohm vaping.

Pod Kits

Vape pod kits are a newer style of device where the tank has been replaced with a pod. Typically, tanks contain glass, whereas a vape pod is made from plastic, making it more durable.
Pods will usually require less maintenance than a tank, although they may need to be changed regularly. With a tank, you just need to change the coil.
Pod kits come in 2 varieties, the first one being closed pods. These are pre-filled with e-liquid and are not refillable –you just replace the whole pod. Common examples of this style are JUUL or VUSE
The second type are open pods, which are re-fillable and let you choose whichever e-liquid you like.

Sub Ohm Kits

Sub Ohm devices are aimed towards more advanced users who are looking for a Direct to Lung (DTL) vaping style rather than the Mouth to Lung (MTL) that you get with a starter vape kit. This DTL style of vaping is more similar to Shisha than smoking a traditional cigarette.
The name Sub-Ohm refers to the fact that the coils used in these kits have less than 1 ohm resistance. Typically, these coils will have resistance between 0.15 ohms and 0.6 ohms.

Disposable Vapes

Disposable vapes have risen in popularity in the past couple of years and are now the most common type of kit e-cig you will see. They require no maintenance, charging or setup. You simply use them straight from the packet and then dispose of them when the e-liquid runs out. Whilst they are incredibly convenient and affordable for one, over time the cost of using them will be higher than using a pod kit.

You can now get a high-quality, reliable starter kit from a well-known brand for around £15 or less. This will include the battery, pod, coil and charging cable. All you will need to add is some liquid, which can be bought for as little as £1.

When selecting a starter kit, personal preferences play a significant role. Factors like size, desired level of maintenance, and frequency of charging are key considerations. But in general, a good starting point will be a pod kit. If you don’t want the hassle of refilling pods and changing coils, then a pre-filled pod kit will be ideal. If you want to save a bit on the cost of e-liquid over time, then a refillable pod kit is best for you.

This will vary on a person’s own experience with vaping. There is a huge selection of vape kit manufacturers, with some of the bigger names in the vape industry being Smok, Innokin and Aspire. A lot of people have used at least one product from these companies. All of these brands have been creating e-cig kits for over a decade and produce easy to use and reliable kits for all user levels.

2 newer brands that should also be considered are OXVA and Vaporesso. Both of these brands can be thought of as the best vape kit brands for powerful feature rich pod kits.

After reviewing all of the current studies on vape kit use in the UK Public Health England have said that e-cigarette kits are around 95% less harmful than tobacco.
