Are e cigarettes safe to use?

Since vaping has been popularized, this has been a question that is frequently asked. Unlike some of the general public assumptions, e cigarettes are a secure way of quitting cigarettes; they have been classified as 95% safer by the NHS as well as third party sources.
Dr. Konstantinos Farsalinos M.D. one of the leading authorities in e cigarette health has published dozens of studies comparing the effect of smoking against the effects of vaping. One particular study of Dr. Farsalinos, shows that vaping has the opposite effect of smoking on the elasticity of arteries - smoking stiffens, e cigarette use "shows no difference" further proving that e-cigarettes are less harmful than tobacco cigarettes.

How many variety of e cigarettes are available today?

Nowadays, with the e cigarette market ever expanding, there are several options for an e cigarette device. It may be a daunting task finding the device for you, so we decided to break down into in three categories:

  • For starters we have the “starter e cigarettes”, which are the simplest form of devices and are suggested to new vapers as they are very easy to use.
  • We then have "Pod Kits", which in terms of simplicity do not differ that much from the "starter e cigarettes", and some are actually simpler to use, since all they may require is just a pod replacement, for either the "refillable" or a "pre-filled" pod device.
  • Last but not least is Sub Ohm devices which are aimed towards more advanced users as they require a certain "know-how" in order to operate and use. Sub Ohm Coils are heating elements within the device but measure below 1.00 Ω. The power requirements are different than standard coils and the style of vaping changes as well.

What type of nicotine and strength should I go for?

There are two types of nicotine available on the market today. They both have their own characteristics, and we will unveil them for you below.

One is the pharmaceutical grade nicotine, most commonly known as "freebase", which is found in many pre-mixed bottle of e-liquids. This form of nicotine is absorbed by the body at a steady rate and the more you vape, the more nicotine builds up in your system, which gradually is released over a period of time. This ‘traditional’ nicotine takes longer to be released into your system once assimilated, but will also keep your nicotine cravings in check for a more extended period of time.

The second one is nicotine salts, or "Nic Salts", which derives directly from the crystals found in tobacco leaves.
Nicotine Salts are considerably smoother to vape, and is preferred by people who want to enjoy nicotine, without the throat hit found in freebase nicotine. It is worth noting as well that nicotine salts are absorbed at a much faster rate by your body, which makes it more efficient at blocking nicotine cravings altogether.

Regarding the level of nicotine you should go for, we would always recommend to not over do it, but in any case, we will break down the recommended use:

MTL User:

  • 6/8 Mg: Low Strength
  • 10/12mg Medium Strength
  • 18/20mg High

Sub-Ohm User:

  • 3 mg Low Strength
  • 6mg Medium Strength
  • 12mg High Strength

If you go for freebase nicotine, bear in mind that the harshness of the nicotine will be stronger than the nicotine salts, therefore only go over 12 mg if you are a heavy smoker.

How do I add nicotine to a Short Fill e liquid?

Short Fill e liquids come in 0 milligrams of nicotine strength, therefore if you require any nicotine level, you need to add nicotine shots in the container. How to do so?

Initially you need to remove the sealing cap and pop open the nozzle that is placed at the top. Ideally you would want to use a pair of pliers for completing this last mentioned step, to ensure that the process it as safe and easy as possible.

Next, you will need to pour the desired amount of nicotine in the Short Filled container.

Seal everything back together, and shake thoroughly to get the nicotine evenly mixed and also to get the best flavour from your juice. It is helpful, if possible, to place the freshly mixed bottle into a glass/container filled of lukewarm water for one minute, and only then shake the bottle through. By doing so, you will mix the nicotine with the liquid more evenly and efficiently.

After this, we recommend you waiting a few minutes to allow the liquid to settle, and once there are no visible bubbles left, you are finally free to refill your device.

To know how much nicotine you require for a preferred nicotine strength, please see below:

  • 50ml Short Fill with 3 mg content: Add 1 x 18/20mg Nicotine Shot
  • 50ml Short Fill with 6 mg content: Add 2 x 18/20mg Nicotine Shots
  • 100ml Short Fill with 3 mg content: Add 2 x 18/20mg Nicotine Shots
  • 100ml Short Fill with 6mg content: Add 4 x 18/20mg Nicotine Shots

If you follow this type of ratio, you will be able to select your preferred nicotine strength with your favourite 50ml Short Fill flavour.
