What are Nicotine shots, Nicotine Salts, Shortfills ?

The first time I heard the term “nic-shot”, I was a little confused, so you can imagine what happened when “nic-salts” came about! To help you understand what these terms mean we’re going to explain them one by one and how to use nic salts. Sit tight, this is going to be an interesting read...

Short fills

A short fill is e-liquid with no nicotine in a bottle that has extra space for a nicotine shot/booster. Typically, short fill e-liquids are available in a 60ml bottle which has 50ml of e-liquid and enough space for you to add a 10ml nic shot.

Short-fills provide great value as you receive a lot more e-liquid for your money and the best part is, you don’t have to worry what strength it is since you can mix your own. This way, you can carry a large bottle with your exact mixture of nicotine instead of a handful of 10mls!

Oh, and it doesn’t stop there either, the bottle sizes vary, meaning you can have a 100ml bottle with space for two nic-shots. If this sounds daunting, fear not since mixing is very easy and safe.

Nicotine shot

The term “nic-shot” or “nic booster” is commonly given to a 10ml bottle of flavourless 18mg nicotine strength PG/VG solution, which is added to a short fill or nicotine-free bottle of e-liquid to create a vaper’s preferred nicotine strength, confused? Basically, a 50ml 0mg e-liquid plus a 10ml 18mg Nicotine shot = 60ml 3mg e-liquid.

Nic Salts

Nicotine salt e-liquids or salt nicotine e liquids can take two forms, they can be a pre-mixed ready to vape

e-liquids or they can be Nicotine Salt shots/boosters that can be added to short fills (see above).

Nic-salts or salt nics are derived directly from the crystals found in tobacco leaves and are considered smoother to vape, some people also claim they are more like smoking cigarettes. Some salts containing 20mg of nicotine, can feel and taste as low as a 10mg mixture — so care is required in their use, remember safety first people, always keep a close eye on your nicotine levels when vaping.

Nic-salts are less efficiently absorbed into the system so some manufacturers started changing their formulas to compensate for this. This meant that the nicotine could be broken down quickly when vaporised, thus allowing it to be absorbed faster whilst retaining its smoothness. Paired with a vape juice flavour of your choice, nic-salt shots can be the key to a quick vape when the time is of the essence, allowing for an instant nicotine rush for instant satisfaction. This form of nicotine, however, will fade quicker than the conventional “freebase” nic, due to the lack of built-up nicotine in your system, unlike cigarettes.

Over absorption of nicotine can lead to adverse effects, so we don’t recommend doing a lung hit with anything over 6mg on sub-ohm devices since you could lose track of how much you vape and high wattage devices could make it very harsh to vape. Giving yourself 5–8 seconds between vapes allows your body to absorb the nicotine so you don’t overdo it.

Which kits do nicotine salt e-liquids work best with?

Nicotine Salt E-Liquids work best within either vape pod kits or mouth to lung (MTL) vape tanks. Pod Kits and MTL tanks are designed perfectly for Nicotine Salt E-Liquids due to having a high resistance (above 1.0 Ohm). They provide a great nicotine hit which is very smooth on the throat when inhaled but still gives you the nicotine you need.

What nicotine strengths are nicotine salt e-liquid available in?

Salt Nic E-Liquids are available in either 10mg/ml or 20mg/ml which makes them perfect for vaping in non sub ohm pod kits and tanks

Why choose nicotine salt over freebase nicotine?

Salt E-Liquid delivers a near instant nicotine sensation which is very smooth on the inhale. Freebase tends to be harsh on the inhale which can tickle some people’s throats but this is very rare. If you have used salt nic e juices before then you will understand how smooth it is when you inhale your e-liquid, if you haven’t, why not give salt nicotine a try!

Are nicotine salt e-liquids nice?

Salt Nicotine E-Liquids are very pleasurable to vape and give great flavour from pod kits and MTL tanks. The vapour produced from Salt Nicotine E-Liquids (10ml bottles) may not be as much due to the majority of Salt Nicotine E-Liquids being 50PG/50VG. If you are someone who uses a sub-ohm tank and wants to use Nicotine Salt then you can use a Salt Nicotine shot and add this a 50ml Short Fill E-Liquid to recreate your best flavour as a nic salt juice.

What is the difference between Freebase and Salts Nicotine?

There are 2 types of nicotine in the market. One is Freebase and the other is Salts. We are going to explain them to you below.

The nicotine that has been the most common since vaping has been a thing, is called freebase nicotine. It is the main method of producing nicotine that tobacco companies have been adoption all the way since the 60's, Freebase means that the nicotine is in its purest form compared to the other nicotine derivatives. In turn, the nicotine is much more potent when heated, therefore giving a stronger throat hit, and takes longer to be released into your system, but will also keep your nicotine cravings in check for a longer period of time.
Nicotine salt on the other hand, is found in tobacco leaves, when they are still in their natural state. Nicotine salt is also somewhat much more stable than purebase and smoother than the freebase form. Salt Nicotine also require a slightly higher temperatures to vaporise, therefore it does travel easily to your nicotine receptors in your body, providing a faster assimilation and "nicotine rush", so care is required in their use, remember safety first people, and always keep a close eye on your nicotine levels when mixing and vaping your e-liquid.
