Today we are going to review the latest device made by this top brand, the most recent installment and highly anticipated on the RPM series: the Smok RPM 2. The device comes packed with new great features and design changes; the main purpose being to better enhance your vaping experience. Lets look at the rpm vs rpm 2, we will also look at the rpm vs rpm 2 coils.

The RPM line by Smok has become very popular during recent years. It created many entries like the RPM40, the RPM80 and the RPM80 Pro, both enhanced versions of the earliest entry. All these devices always follow the first RPM main concept; to be portable pod devices, capable of sub-ohm vaping and fully equipped with a chip mod, ultimately turning them into pod mods. If you would like to read more about those, please visit the RPM40 vs RPM80 blog.
As expected, many brands followed suit and created their pod mod variations, like Voopoo with the Vinci kit, Vaporesso with the Target PM80 Kit and Geekvape with the Aegis Boost Kit. So, the RPM line can be said to be responsible for shaping other vaping manufacturers into creating a whole new device type for all those vapers who want the power of bigger vape mods, but favour a more portable shape instead of the more powerful but chunky sub-ohm devices out there!
Features
Starting with the newly implemented battery, the RPM 2 is powered by a 2000 mAh battery, which places it in between both the RPM40 and the RPM80, with 1500 mAh and 3000 mAh respectively. The upside of this, is the use of a USB Type-C charging port on behalf of the RPM 2 which is situated by the right side of the device. This makes charging times not an issue, as it is capable of charging itself with lower time required, with a 1.4 A charging rate.
As well as an overall improvement in the battery compartment, there is also a renovation in power; the RPM 2 is capable of wattage range up to 80W, much like the RPM 80, and is also adjustable up to your preference.
On top of better charging efficiency, the Smok RPM 2 supports both forward and reverse compatibility. What does this mean? Well, it means that it can be used more conveniently by charging it through a supported mobile device, or in the opposite way, by functioning as a power bank to charge another device! Great right? This feature can be used at all times, provided that you have the appropriate USB Type-C plug to support forward and reverse charging (sold separately).
Another interesting feature worth noting is the lack of pod lock in the device. The Smok RPM 2 purely relies on magnetic power, in order to keep the RPM pod attached to the device. This means that you won’t risk the lock breaking in case of accidental damage, and there will be no friction sound when interacting in any way with it. It is a very solid feature, since no matter how the device is swinged, the pod will remain in place.
Design
We have seen that the Smok RPM 2 comes packed with new innovative features, that characterise the evolution of the series. But what about the aesthetic design? Let’s start with the revamped TFT coloured screen! It is 1.14 inch in size using Thin Film Transistor technology, capable of displaying with more clarity. The user interface of the screen has also been updated, which allows the display of vaping data with ease. It also releases with 6 starting colours, which are the following:
- Bright Black
- Prism Rainbow
- Prism Deep Tarnish
- Prism Gold
- Red
- Prism Blue
We can undeniably say that those are all strong options, and Smok here is clearly going for colour options that have been popular in the past installment of this series.
Pod
Now let’s have a look at the pod. Are there any changes? Yes and no. In the box, the Smok RPM 2 comes included with RPM and RPM 2 Pods, making the device compatible with all the RPM coil range we are already accustomed and use, and the new powerful RPM 2 coils.
The RPM 2 coil included in the box, has 0.16 ohm in resistance and is aimed strictly for direct to lung use. The reason is because it produces denser flavour than ever before in an RPM coil, and can be pushed at higher wattages.
The refill system received no modifications, as it has been well functioning and convenient to begin with. It is, like it has always been, situated on the side of the pod, allowing for easy refill of the pod, and better leak proof design.
